TOPIC: SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENTÖIS IT A CORE COMPETENCY?

Core competency, this is a term we have heard and seen used to justify a multitude of organizational changes in this country. What do you think of when you hear the term? Manufacturing, marketing, product development, distribution, logistics, the list could go on and on. These past years we have been exposed to a high number of product recalls for wide variety of products that have been outsourced. We hear reports of huge inventory write-offs, late deliveries, supplier conflicts, etc. These are all supply chain management issues! Where is the core competency to manage these issues? The APICS dictionary defines core competencies as: ìBundles of skills or knowledge sets that enable a firm to provide the greatest level of value to its customers in a way that is difficult for competitors to emulate and that provides for future growth.î In this presentation Dave will explore the issues in supply chain management and outline some of the tools available to help you build your competency in supply chain management.
