TOPIC: Improving Cash Flow through Closed-Loop Inventory Management
In the current economic environment cash is king and many firms are focused on reducing working capital through optimization of inventories. A comprehensive, closed-loop approach is needed to achieve best results. The process must begin with demand planning to improve forecasting and better align stocking policies with demand patterns. Dynamic inventory targets based on desired service levels and supply chain variables must be maintained. Optimization of inventory across the entire network is needed to avoid sub-optimizations. Replenishment processes must be directly linked to planning. Tracking of performance versus metrics and active management of exceptions is required to achieve desired results. This presentation will show how to design and implement inventory management processes that can unlock working capital while maintaining acceptable customer service.
