'I straighten the wheel gently 'cause the car's a little loose, the tires are scrabbling for grip, as I clear the turn and blast bumper to bumper for the finish line. The cheering of the fans in the stands is still not enough to drown out the full throttle roar of my 900HP racing engine under the hood, screaming like a demented banshee at 9000 RPM. We win again, taking the checkered flag, the winner on race day, as I finish my victory lap before performing a few perfect doughnuts in the infield.' That scene is repeated weekly in racing venues across our country. NASCAR, the biggest auto racing franchise in the US, if not the world. Driving a lot of those race cars to victory every week are engines from Roush-Yates Racing Engines. The engines are a precise mix of old-school V8 technology with modern materials and production techniques. Seated in the captain's chair managing this operation is Mary Ann Mauldwin, CFPIM CSCP, Director of Operations for Roush Yates Racing Engines. This is who we have presenting at our November Professional Development Meeting, November 11, 2008 at Tucson's in Clearwater. Please make plans now to join us for this exceptional opportunity to share in Mary Ann's review and presentation of how Roush-Yates quite literally used APICS Body of Knowledge to win at the finish line! Should make for an interesting meeting. See you there! The company was created in late 2003 as the result of Jack Roush and Robert Yates' vision to combine resources and talent to provide one of the most competitive racing engines for the NASCAR series. Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates quickly realized the production volume required supply chain skills the company didn't have. Mary Ann Mauldwin joined the Roush Yates staff in May 2004. Over the past four years Mary Ann has directed the key operations management objectives for the company. Mary Ann will discuss the implementation of lean manufacturing objectives as well as the disciplines leading to the process efficiencies and profitability Roush Yates has accomplished since its inception. The company has profited from the APICS education and training provided to all employees. Roush Yates has implemented an ERP system as well as cycle counting, engineering change process, material review board, supplier certification program and numerous other supply chain disciplines. More information is forthcoming soon. Second Harvest is one of APICS target charities. Normally in December we don't have a meeting due to everyone's busy schedule. However, this year we are proud to announce a new initiative. December 9th we will be hold a joint networking dinner with several other professional societies in the area: ISM, ASQ, SPE and PMI are those we have been talking about. Look for more information later this month to announce the final details. This will be an exciting opportunity to visit and network with other society members. Many have similar needs and similar issues. Discussions can be productive and informative. We look forward to seeing you there. This compares with unemployment rates of 6.8% and 6.1% for Florida and the United States, respectively. Having almost 100,000 people out of work, and a higher unemployment rate than the state and national averages, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater MSA is an extremely competitive marketplace. With the global economy in crisis, and the potential for small business disincentives after the presidential election, the marketplace will become more competitive in the near term. [Read more...] |
