A balmy Florida Fall greeting to my fellow APICS members and friends! As we all witness our country adapting to the new economic norms, all facets of operations management are becoming more important than ever before. That old adage about "complaining of alligators while draining the swamp" comes to mind. Fat revenues and profits can hide a number of sins. Reductions in those same revenues and profits are exposing a multitude of operational weaknesses around the world. Supply Chain Management competence is one of the prime operations functions being scrutinized worldwide. Recently we have been subjected to high numbers of recalls for a wide variety of outsourced products, with reports of consumers being harmed, huge inventory write-offs, late deliveries, supplier conflicts, etc. These are all Supply Chain Management issues! Where is the core competency to manage, or better yet, prevent these issues? Our presenter for this meeting is Dave Lehman, CPIM CIRM CSCP. Dave's presentation will explore current issues in Supply Chain Management and will outline some of the tools available to help you build your competency and competitiveness. Dave Lehman is a seasoned educator, manager, leader and consultant, focusing on developing organizational and operational success, specializing in APICS Fundamentals, CPIM, CSCP, Global Sourcing, and Lean philosophies. Please make your plans now to attend our program. Bring a colleague or two. Our meetings offer everyone opportunities in networking, career services, operations management education courses as well as excellent and informative presentations. I look forward to seeing you there! Best regards, Craig Williams, CPIM - VP Programs www.linkedin.com/in/craigwilliamscpim www.apics-flwc.org
Peter J. Christiano As we have all noticed, times are pretty tough right now. Employment has been curtailed in many companies, expenses at companies have been reduced by eliminating many of the core items that help companies remain strong, and a general state of uncertainty abounds. The end is not readily visible. The Florida West Coast Chapter recognizes this and has been doing several things to help. Our Career Services group has been working hard to provide members other options to help in their employment search. This includes our posting of known job openings as well as assistance in personal development, such as coordinating resume presentations, networking opportunities and networking guidance. Please continue to visit the Career Center on the Chapter's website. Go to www.apics-flwc.org and click on the Another thing that we have been able to do is reduce the cost of the dinner meetings for members. Craig Williams has been working with Tucson's and has been able to negotiate with them to help reduce the cost of the dinner meals. We have been able to pass that savings along to you. Since education is vital to helping a member stand out when their rÈsumÈ is being read, Jerry Kilty is working on new methods to present education that is more convenient and is tailored to help understand the core philosophies that make an APICS Certified member that much more valuable to an employer. Follow the Until Next MonthÖ Best Regards, PJ Christiano President Florida West Coast Chapter APICS Visit the Chapter's job postings
